Affiliate Programs for Software and SaaS
Software is the category where recurring commission is most common and most valuable, and where the gap between a good programme and a mediocre one is widest. Two products at similar price points can differ by an order of magnitude in what a referral is ultimately worth, depending on whether commission is one-off or lifetime, how long the cookie lasts, and whether trials count. None of that is visible from a commission percentage alone.

One-off versus recurring is the first question
A one-off payment on an annual plan and a lifetime recurring share are completely different propositions. Check the recurring field before comparing rates, because the rates are not comparable until you have.
B2B software converts slowly and in groups
Business tools are often evaluated by several people over weeks. Longer cookie windows genuinely matter, and content that helps an evaluation — comparisons, migration notes, real workflows — outperforms announcement-style posts.
Self-serve and sales-led products pay differently
A product anyone can sign up for behaves like retail. One that routes through a sales team may credit you only after a deal closes, on a timeline you do not control. Both can be worth promoting; they are not the same commitment.
Hosting and infrastructure have their own pattern
Hosting programs have long been among the more generous in software, but often pay once on a first term rather than recurring, and frequently require the referral to remain active for a qualifying period. Read the qualifying conditions, not just the rate.
